64-year-old John Blackmore is now facing criminal charges after being identified by Oregon police for attempting to hit a elderly Black woman with his car while she waited at her son’s apartment. The incident took place in Hillsboro, Oregon where the 78-year-old became the victim of a racially motivated crime.
Blackmore had got into a car nearby when the woman moved her car to allow him to exit. Blackmore drove his car at the woman instead of just leaving while yelling and almost hitting her. The man turned his car around and attempted to hit the woman’s vehicle. She got out of the car because she thought he might try to hit her according to police. The man left his car and approached her aggressively on foot.
According to reports, the woman’s son saw what was going on and ran downstairs of his apartment to the parking lot, where he stood between the man and his mother to protect her. The man yelled racial slurs and profanities at the mother and son, a couple watching the incident from their apartment called police. When one of the neighbors also came down to the parking lot, Blackmore got back in his vehicle and drove off.
Blackmore was later identified and charged with two counts of second-degree bias crime and two counts of harassment. Blackmore could face up to three years in prison.
