North Carolina Hampton Inn Employee No Longer Employed After Accusing Black Guest Of Trespassing

A Hampton Inn employee has lost her job after an encounter with a Black mother who was using the hotel’s pool with her children. The incident took place on June 26 in Williamston, North Carolina according to ABC 7. The employee called 911 on Anita Williams-Wright after the women argued about the right to use the pool. Williams-Wright proceeds to go live on Facebook and record the interaction with the woman and two police officers.

Williams-Wright accused the employee of discrimination and harassment according to the news outlet.

“It was other people in the pool and she said nothing to them,” Williams-Wright said.

“I proved that I have a room here with my kids,” the mother of two said on the video. “Because I’m the only Black person here in this pool, they wanna question me.”

Williams-Wright claims the employee told her it was “people like you” who often use the pool area without permission.

“It was two white people sitting over there and she said nothing to them,” Williams-Wright said. “She said to me, ‘Oh, because it’s always people like you using the pool unauthorized.’ Who is people like me?”

Global head of Hampton by Hilton Shruti Gandhi Buckley announced the white woman is no longer employed by the company on Monday.

“Hampton by Hilton has zero-tolerance for racism or discrimination of any kind,” Buckley said in a statement. “The member is no longer employed at the hotel. We have apologized directly to the guest and her family for their experience and will work with them and the hotel to make this right.”
