Whoever said not to mix family and business wasn’t talking about the Frias sisters. In 2019, Shaira Frías—an entrepreneur, professional makeup artist and a former journalist—and her sister Mabel—a retail strategist who has worked with Macy’s and Nordstrom—co-founded Luna Magic, a beauty brand that provides an inclusive product offering that speaks to a range of richly-hued women, including Afro-Latinas and beyond.
Moving with intention is a part of the brand’s mission. The strength of their sisterhood helps the two communicate through all decisions. Growing up, the pair experienced many different cultures and met a variety of people. “We grew up going to the Caribbean, going to the Dominican Republic, seeing all those vibrant colors, the culture, the music, the food—all of that. We thought, how could we translate all of that into our packaging into our products?” shared the sisters.
