Drake Reveals He Wanted ‘The Fairy Tale’ Relationship With Rihanna, Rapper Says He Wanted To Start A Family With Singer At One Time

When you’re one of the highest selling rappers in the world, there’s always someone who could see themselves with you. Drake’s relationships, exploits and experiences form the basis of his music and fan base. Even Drake doesn’t always get what he wants he shares in a resurfaced interview.

While Drake’s success of course gives him access to a bevy of personalities, it seems he’s always having issues with women he dates and mentions in songs. Tiffany Haddish herself has been waxing on about some of her other high-profile celebrity encounters during her time at home and rapper Drake is on that list – unfortunately, as the one that potentially got away.

Haddish and a whole host of others appeared in Drake’s 2008 video for his hit song “Nice for What,” and she shared the story in an interview with fellow comedienne Luenell on VladTV. Turns out, it all started with a DM.

“I had no relationship with Drake whatsoever,” Tiffany Haddish admitted. “I would explore it if he was trying to… What kind of personality do he got? What’s the tea with him? He had slid in my DMs, I had no idea. I ran into him at a party and he was like, ‘Man, I was in your DMs. I’m trying to get you to do my music video.’”

Haddish indeed checked her messages — and there was Drake. She accepted, did the video and it was then that Drake told her he’d like to take her for dinner.

However, as the story goes, told by Haddish, that Drake had to cancel at the last minute for a “family emergency.” Haddish believed this emergency years ago was the birth of his then-secret son with Sophie Brussaux, Adonis.

In an appearance on LeBron James’ HBO show The Shop in 2018, Drake talked about becoming a new father to the one and only Adonis, the issues he’s faced with his son’s mother and about how Rihanna was the fairy tale that got away.

With son Adonis, Drake shared how much of a balancing act he has to achieve as a new father with a woman that he is still learning.

“I am a single father learning to communicate with a woman who… you know, we’ve had our moments, right?” he shared. “And I do want to be able to explain to my son what happened. But I don’t have any desire for him to, like, not love his mother… I don’t ever want the world to be angry at his mother. We have found ourselves in a situation and we are both equally responsible, and now I’m just really excited to be a great father. I have a son, he’s a beautiful boy.”

He’d rather the mother have been Rihanna, however.

Back then, Drake caught flack for a speech he gave while presenting Rihanna with the “MTV Video Vanguard Award” back in 2016, which made her visibly uncomfortable. It was right before they rekindled their relationship before breaking up for good shortly after. In the speech, Drake proclaimed his love for the singer very awkwardly.

“As life takes shape and teaches you your own lessons, I end up in this situation where I don’t have the fairy tale, like, ‘Oh, Drake started a family with Rihanna and this is like so perfect,’” Drake said to James. “It looks so good on paper,” he said of their pop star connection. “By the way, I wanted that too at one time.”
