An Oregon auto repair shop worker has been let go after refusing to fill up a Black man’s gasoline caninster because he claimed protesters use them to start “dumpster fires.” Dom DeWeese posted the video on July 28 that shows the encounter he had with an employee at Jay’s Garage in Portland.
“They’re refusing to sell me gasoline because he’s judging me and stereotyping me, saying I’ll start riots and fires,” DeWeese says in the video.
The video captures, DeWeese saying he wants to fill his canister to put gas into his lawn mower. The man in the video says he’ll put gas into his car or lawn mower, but not the container. The man also said he was “picking and choosing” customers.
“Well, there’s dumpster fires. They get a can of gasoline and they start the fire,” the man says, referring to protesters according to Yahoo News.
Jay’s Garage said the incident was “completely unacceptable and appalling” and the worker in question was “immediately terminated,” according to the auto shop’s statement.
