Who Ended Up the MVP After the RHONY Reunion?

On Sunday evening, season 14 of The Real Housewives of New York City came to a close in a frustrating conclusion, with everybody agreeing to be friends (yeah, right). Here’s my ranking of all the ladies after the two-part reunion, from the absolute worst to the MVP.

6. Jenna Lyons

Okay, we all love Jenna, right? But unfortunately, she fell flat during this reunion. She was the voice of reason, which is always necessary, but otherwise, she ultimately didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. However, I do believe that the way that she diminished Ubah’s feelings about wanting to know ahead of time about cameras being in her face at her house, gives her the side-eye. I don’t agree with Bravo fans who think that she gave nothing to the show because she did share a lot about her health struggles, the challenges of motherhood and navigating dating in NYC, and the traumas of her childhood. I would just love for her to let loose a bit!

5. Erin Lichy

Erin, Erin, Erin. Or as Ubah calls her, Kerin! Erin Lichy gets on my last nerves. Lichy loves using her tears to get what she wants and luckily a lot of the women don’t let her get away with it. She loves to be a pot stirrer but refuses to take accountability for bringing the worst out of people. Lichy spent the reunion continuing to invalidate and diminish Jessel’s life story. I found it odd that a white woman is trying so hard to call a woman of color privileged for having an internship and living off of savings. The look of privilege is different depending on who you ask but that doesn’t make her a liar, Erin!

4. Sai De Silva

Sai De Silva had an interesting time at the reunion, spending most of it attempting to apologize (not really) for her actions all season. When discussing her beef with Jessel she first said that she was too invested in her and Pavit’s relationship, but then turned around and said that the couple doesn’t have a connection. Huh? How do you go from saying you’re sorry for being too nosey to saying that the couple doesn’t go together? Sai De Silva also made viewers cringe for not defending Ubah in a conversation about the “Angry Black Woman” stereotype. Although she had a heartbreaking moment talking more about her mother’s struggle with alcohol addiction and her tragic death, she still left me less than convinced that she’s needed on the show. *Big sigh*

3. Jessel Taank and Brynn Whitfield

Jessel Taank and Brynn Whitfield end up tied for third in my book! I absolutely love Jessel Taank. She started the season struggling to find her footing, but the way she handled the constant attacks from her costars about her marriage and upbringing made me a fan. Although I am proud of the way Taank stood up for herself and made sure to let De Silva and Lichy know that their bullying was unacceptable, she still fell into the trap of quickly wanting to become their friend by the time the reunion ended. I believe that Taank could be a bit tougher with the ladies, but maybe that would take away from her charm.

Brynn Whitfield has jumped all over the rankings this season. However, during the reunion, she showed that she does not back down from a fight. The Whitfield vs. De Silva beef came out of nowhere but Whitefield telling De Silva that she couldn’t hear her from the end of the couch was a fabulous shady moment. Unfortunately, Whitfield lost points for me when discussions of race came up. Whitfield talked about her pride in being a Black woman and shared the complications of her identity being raised by her white grandmother in an all-white town. Whitfield showed an ugly side by using her race to explain her emotions saying that she was more aggressive in fights because she’s Black and Irish. Yikes, that’s not the way to show your racial and ethnic pride.

1. Ubah Hassan

Ubah Hassan had a tough reunion, from start to finish. Yes, she had quite a few random outbursts, mostly targeted at Lyons, but a lot of times she wasn’t wrong. A consistent issue that I noticed during the reunion was that many of the ladies would use Hassan’s language barrier against her. Sometimes Hassan doesn’t quite put together her phrases in a way that’s grammatically correct, but all of the ladies one-hundred percent know what she’s talking about. Hassan ended up getting louder and louder while being pushed into a corner. The ladies avoided accountability for their actions by trying to catch Hassan in a battle of semantics. Hassan already knew that her “passionate” tone of voice would be portrayed as “angry” and the ladies proved that, eventually pushing Hassan to tears. Hassan kept repeating that she loves all of her cast members and even admires them, she spent much of the season actually trying to protect some of them, but they did not return the favor.
