EBONY caught up with Kim Kimble to discuss her journey from hairstylist to household name in the beauty and entertainment space.

EBONY: Tell us about yourself. Where did your love for hair develop?

Kim Kimble: I was around hair all my life, as my grandmother worked in a salon. So I was exposed to that really early on, and my love for hair and the industry grew from there.

Who were some of your first clients?

Some of the first clients I worked with early on in my career include Brandy, Garcelle Beauvais, and Beyoncé.

What are some of your favorite projects you’ve worked on?

There have been so many projects that I am extremely proud of, but some of my favorites have been Dreamgirls, Beyoncé’s Lemonade visual album, and also Beyoncé’s Coachella performance.

The latest project that I’m proud of is the hair collection I created with HairUWear—The Kim Kimble Hair Collection. It’s been such an honor to bring these styles to consumers that were inspired by my previous work over the course of my career.

Who would be a dream client if you haven’t worked with them?

Prince! Of course, I won’t be able to work with him now, but that would have been incredible. As a man, he would get really creative with his hair, and I would have been so excited to work on something special with him.
