It’s time for Flashback Friday, and we’re revisiting the cast of the hit series Girlfriends, series creator Mara Brock Akil’s “hashtag goals” for Black female friendship. Due to the 2008 writers’ strike, we never got the ending that we deserved, and we were cheated out of seeing Toni and Joan reunite and Joan finally getting married in the eighth and final season.

The show was a monumental series in the Black community because of what it represented: a focus on sisterhood, family and career among its four female characters. Debuting on UPN in 2000, the show centered around the lives and loves of Joan Carol Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross), Maya Denise Wilkes (Golden Brooks), Antoinette “Toni” Marie Childs-Garrett (Jill Marie Jones) and Lynn Ann Searcy (Persia White). The ladies’ individual characters’ style reflected their personalities. Many of us learned about brands like Christian Louboutin and saw our first Hermes Birkin bags from the series.

Funny enough, you can see each character’s style in their personal style outside of the television series. From presenting at award shows and hitting red carpets to doing work and giving back to those in need, these ladies always looked stunning.

Let’s take a look back at some of their best-style moments on this Flashback Friday.
