The annual NYC Pride celebration is one that consistently raises the bar for similar commemorations worldwide. What many don’t know is that the event not only originated in New York City but also began as a riot in 1969.
This time-honored tradition brings folks from diverse ethnicities and identities together under the umbrella of acceptance and unity. For members of the LGBTQ+ community, allies, friends and loved ones, Pride serves as a reminder that the celebration is rooted in resistance.
During the 2023 NYC installment, Pride attendees reveled in the chance to participate in the lavish parade route filled with unique floats, bright-colored wardrobes and plenty of joy. While the main representation of this momentous occasion was reflected through the dozens of parties and gatherings across the city, there is still certainly more work to be done in this country to achieve full inclusivity for LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters.
