EBONY, in conjunction with Walmart, is highlighting a series of Black female entrepreneurs that represent the new guard in business through innovative product offerings that address the unique needs of communities of color and beyond.

In just a year, Veronica Shaw, affectionately known as Chef Pii, has gone from your average content creator to running a full scale food business. In June 2022, the private chef and TikTok star introduced the world to her now viral Pink Sauce, and it literally had social media ablaze.

With some tweaking and research, the content creator perfected the sauce that is now being sold in Walmart stores across the country. Described as a sweet, tangy and spicy sauce, the bright pink color comes from the chef’s secret (or not so secret anymore) ingredient—dragon fruit. The chef was recently selected as one of Walmart’s She-EO Business disruptors for her success with her Pink Sauce brand.

“Be true to yourself,” Chef Pii says to young, aspiring entrepreneurs during her She-EO interview with Marsai Martin. “My hair is pink, my sauce is pink. Just know I’m aiming to have the best sauce on the shelf in all the nation.”

If you’re looking for new recipes for your upcoming summer gathering and parties, the viral chef gave us the lowdown on 2 easy-to-make dishes. Blow your guests and friends away by incorporating the bright pink sauce for an added twist to these already classic dishes—deviled eggs and veggie sliders.

“Thinking outside the box can be mysterious, satisfying, and intriguingly delicious,” Chef Pii says. “Take your friends, family or guests’ palates on a journey by intriguing their curiosity on how these are naturally colored and vegetarian.”

Pink Deviled Eggs

  • 3 Eggs
  • Pickled Red Cabbage
  • Sandwich Spread
  • Minced Sweet Onion
  • Pink Sauce

Pickled Cabbage

  • 1 cup Red Cabbage
  • 1 cup Jalapeño
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Pickle Spices
  1. Boil eggs, peel them, allow to cool for 5 mins. Cut in half with a knife.
  2. Separate the yolk from the egg white, placing them in separate bowls. Pour 1 cup of the pickle juice and 1 cup of water into the bowl with the egg whites. Push the egg whites down to ensure they are covered in the mixture. Cover the bowl and place in the fridge for at least 3 hours.
  3. Add 1 tbsp of the sandwich spread and ½ tbsp of minced onion to the egg yolks and stir until they are smooth with a fork. Feel free to add a little more sandwich spread if it needs to be a little smoother; however, ensure it is not a loose consistency.
  4. Transfer the yolk mixture to a sandwich bag (place the bag in a cup to prevent leakage). Put the bag inside the refrigerator while the egg whites sit in the pickle mixture.
  5. Remove the egg whites from the mixture.
  6. Place them onto a paper towel before placing them into the dish you will present them in.
  7. Put the colored egg whites into a dish and cut a dime-sized slant at the bottom of the sandwich bag to create a piping bag.
  8. Pipe the egg yolk mixture into the colored egg whites. Garnish with edible flowers.
  9. To finish it off, drizzle The Pink Sauce on top.

Pickled Red Cabbage

  1. Combine water, vinegar, salt, brown sugar, pickle, and pickle spices in a container(ex: a mason jar or a container with a lid) and put the mixture into the microwave for 45 seconds to one minute. Remove the mixture and stir.
  2. Add in the shredded cabbage and cover with the lid. Allow to sit for at least one hour.
