Actor Isaiah Washington Believes That His “Best Teachers and Neighbors” Were KKK Members

Actor Isaiah Washington knows how to make a provocative statement. In a recent social media post reflecting on his experience with racism, Washington stated his belief that some of his “best teachers and neighbors” had been members of the Klu Klux Klan, a historic hate group. He reposted the post with the original caption after it was initially removed.

“I had some of the best elementary school teachers and even some neighbors that I knew were Klan Members back in Texas while growing up. I knew where They stood with me and They also knew where I stood with Them. The boundaries were very, very clear and I still played with Their kids., I just couldn’t drink from Their outside water hose or come inside Their house to eat.”

The late rapper Heavy D has been honored with a sculpture in Mount Vernon, New York where he was raised. The artwork is titled “Peaceful Journey,” inspired by one of his songs and was sculpted by Brooklyn artist Eto Otitgbe. In a quote to ABC 7 NY, Heavy D’s mother Euhlalee Myers shared, “My son loved the arts and this sculpture and this sculpture depicts the love that he have especially for the city of Mount Vernon.” The sculpture is located at 42 Broad Street in Mount Vernon.
