Lizzo Says Fat People Are Systematically Oppressed As Much As Blacks, Claims No One Wants To Be Black or Fat

Lizzo is back on the charts and the radio with her new single “Rumors”. The Cardi B assisted track has divided fans, with many taking issue with its video and the plus size star’s body. Lizzo is no stranger to fat shaming and people making comments about her size, using the new song as a way to address rumors and things said about her. In the past Lizzo has been candid about her feelings towards fat shaming and how she feels that plus sized people are just as oppressed at black people.

With the arrival of “Rumors”, Lizzo opened up herself to a whole new line of criticism. The record is about addressing rumors and things said about her in the media. From people talking about who she’s slept with to her diet choices and comments on her body. “I am body goals” she says in one line of the record. Elsewhere she quips “[they] Say i’m turning big girls into hoes”.

She also addressed her juice cleanse that went viral last year. Lizzo documented a week where she did a cleanse and many poked fun at her for either no losing weight or for ever trying to lose it in the first place.  Fans who saw the criticism took to social media to support her.  “Fat people being mad at Lizzo for not wanting to be fat, is the fattest s**t ever. Y’all mad cause she doesn’t want diabetes and hypertension.” One shared, “Being mad at Lizzo for choosing to do what she feels is best for her body is peak fake. Leave that girl alone bro.”

Following its release she broke down online due to the scrutiny she received. Her collaborator Cardi B came to her defense via twitter. “When you stand up for yourself they claim your problematic & sensitive.” she told her followers. She continued “When you don’t they tear you apart until you crying like this. Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you.”

While this time around may have broken Lizzo down, she has been very vocal in the past and defended herself and other plus sized people. Back in February she took to tiktok to discuss the oppression of larger women. The video was in response to someone asking the if you would willingly switch bodies with a larger person. “Would you switch places with a fat persons body tomorrow?” she asked before responding “You would not!” She continued “You know theres a whole system that oppresses fat people” and compared it to white people who wouldn’t switch bodies with black people.
