Jakari Young becomes Daytona Beach’s first Black police chief

The City of Daytona Beach recently swore in its first African American police chief according to FOX 35 Orlando.

Jakari Young, 42, replaces Chief Craig Capri, who’s retiring after a 30-year career. Capri was the city’s police chief since 2017. Young is the department’s 17th police chief since 1919.

Young previously served as the department’s deputy chief since 2017, and has been apart of the staff

Young served as the department’s deputy chief since 2017 and has been a member of the command staff for the past six years.
