Tyler Perry Says Spike Lee’s Criticism ‘Stung’ But He Still Named A Soundstage After Him

Tyler Perry recently opened up about reconciling with filmmaker Spike Lee. In the past, Lee criticized some of Perry’s characters referring to them as “coonery and buffoonery.” Tyler says the critique hurt him.

However, Perry still named one of his studio’s soundstages after Lee, “If any criticisms stung, it would have been his, because I had so much respect and admiration for him. People’s opinions are their opinions, but that doesn’t negate the fact of the work that he’s done. And he’s due the honor of having a stage named after him and more than that.”
