Damon Dash is one of the hip-hop legends that has been right there to help guide the genre to mainstream success, as an executive and co-owner of iconic label Roc A Fella Records. In the years since, he’s branched off and maintained his business acumen, while still mourning the loss of his once-great love, Aaliyah. Turns out she may not have “gone” too far, according to him and his current partner.
Dash is one of the few people that has spoken openly over the years about his relationship with the deceased singer, whose life was cut short due to a plane accident. While her catalog still isn’t available on the digital streaming services, her life lives on – due to Dash and another infamous personality she was attached to, R. Kelly.
Azriel Clary, one of R. Kelly’s alleged “girlfriend”/abuse victim, has released a video update that has rocked the Internet, in which she shares some additional information about R. Kelly’s past relationship with Aaliyah. In part of telling her own story as part of a YouTube video series she created — Clary says that Aaliyah was not R. Kelly’s first underage girlfriend.

“Truthfully, I feel like this man is in his 50’s. I am not the first person this man has done this too. This has been happening since the 90s. This has been happening since way before Aaliyah. Aaliyah was not the first minor he was with.”
Dash even took part in the Surviving R. Kelly documentary series, which many credit with helping to urge prosecutors to bring a case against Kelly that they could win – and Kelly currently still sits in jail. During his sit-down for the documentary, Dash talked about how Aaliyah referred to Kelly.

“She was a good soul, a good girl,” he began. “She wasn’t even so resentful ‘Like let that man live, but keep him away from me’ – that’s all she wanted. She was just happy to be away.”
In what may be a surprising twist however, recently Damon Dash and his partner claimed that they converse with the spirit of Aaliyah, also saying that she guides them and even his partner, on their relationship together.
Dash has been with partner Raquel M. Horn since approximately 2015. The producer and the music executive are not married but previously, Dash has referred to Horn as his “fiancée.” Damon, who appears on the show Growing Up Hip-Hop alongside his son Damon “Boogie” Dash II, the subject of Aaliyah came up and the couple shared their spiritual connection.
“It’s funny. I would be talking to [Raquel] and her record would come on,” he said. “It would always be like validation.” Dash also claimed that when Horn is trying to “figure” him out, “she talks to Aaliyah.”
Dash said that when they would talk and the singer’s name would come up, lightening would go off or a butterfly would appear. But the most interesting way in which Aaliyah, or her spirit, has presented herself in their relationship, is through Horn’s alleged conversations with the star.
“I noticed when she’s trying to figure me out,” he said, “she talks to Aaliyah.” Horn concurred, stating that she asks Aaliyah’s spirit for advice and “it usually answers.”
“The [passing] of Aaliyah was really hard on Damon,” she said in a confessional. “I feel like she guides me a lot and tells me how to react and how to be the best lover. She is definitely a daily part of our lives together.”
