Charlamagne Tha God Says NBA Star Steph Curry Will Only Step Up For Community When “Beige Lives Matter” In Resurfaced Interview

Amidst tensions surrounded by the divide in this country, many organizations are doing their part in order to shed light on what’s going on.  Celebrities have also been using their voices as well to spark change, whether it be participating in various demonstrations nationwide, using their social media platforms to speak up, or donating to causes.

The NBA has been one of those organizations.  Many of the players within the NBA have been extremely vocal on the issues and have stood in solidarity with families and those that are angered by the various cases of injustice across the country.  Among players like Lebron James and Kyrie Irving that have been using their voices, so has Warriors player Steph Curry.

Curry once made headlines when speaking on NFL player Colin Kaepernick, saying he did not view his attempts to be disrespectful and offering his support for the athlete, as well as his stance on kneeling for the national anthem.  He was a guest speaker at TechCrunch’s Disrupt event in San Francisco where the All-Star explained he was all for “ways to make our community better, especially for African-Americans,” but that he would most likely stand during the National Anthem.

“My approach is not going to please everyone and that’s what America is about,” he said. “Some people agree with Colin, some don’t. But the common thread is that there is change that needs to be made.”

Although he’s shared his support for Kaepernick and sent out a tweet, it wasn’t enough for some.  The Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne The God appeared on Any Given Wednesday with Bill Simmons where he didn’t mince words on the Warriors’ point guard and his lack of significant response.

“I mean, Steph is gonna step up when beige lives start getting k-lled by the police,” Charlamagne says to Simmons quickly. “He doesn’t care about Black lives, he cares about beige lives. When the ‘Beige Lives Matter’ campaign starts, Steph’s going to be right there at the forefront.”

Since that interview aired, Curry has seemingly become more involved and extremely vocal on recent matters plaguing the nation.  He participated in the American Century Championship over the summer, and each day wore custom made shoes with slogans featuring BLM and various faces of African Americans.

Along with his wife Ayesha, the Curry’s joined in several different demonstrations in California as well, leading out chants along with his fellow Warriors teammates.  The couple even brought their young daughter, Riley, along with them to one of the protests.  Speaking with Self Magazine, Ayesha explained the significance of bringing their daughter along on the seven-mile protest saying, “We felt like it was time. I mean, even if it wasn’t time, it was time, you know what I mean? And we felt like the best way to explain everything to her was for her to see it and understand it and hear it firsthand. So we brought her with us.”

She continued, “She totally got it, she internalized it, and then was able to ask us the questions that she wanted to ask without being fearful of asking them.  I feel like that’s been how we see change happening — because the children are our future, and I feel like if we’re verbally and physically instilling in them the change we wish to see, that’s the best way to get it going. So not really sugarcoating no matter how young the kids are — not sugarcoating what’s going on, really tackling it head-on, face-first — has been what’s worked for us.”
