Let’s get his Howard gear ready!
An Indiana teen accepted to more than 60 colleges announced his choice to attend Howard University, Black Enterprise reports.
Taran Richardson impressed himself at the end of last school year, getting accepted to more than 60 different colleges and universities while raking up more than $1 million in scholarships. The 18-year-old had worked hard throughout his tenure in high school, becoming the salutatorian at Charles A. Tindley Accelerated High, where he excelled academically and socially, even volunteering with the Stop the Violence Indianapolis initiative as his capstone project.
His participation in community organizations like the Lions Club and Boys Scout as well as extracurricular activities like show choir, serving as class president, National Honors Society, playing several sports all while working part-time at Walmart and maintaining a 3.7 GPA made Richardson an exceptional candidate for any school.
After much deliberation, Richardson announced that he would be attending Howard University, a historically Black university in Washington, DC.
“I could see myself in that place. I pictured myself going there since Day 1,” Richardson told IndyStar.
He went on to note that it boiled down to where he felt most comfortable, noting that the Howard campus felt most welcoming and close to NASA where he hopes to intern as an undergraduate. Richardson credited his mom and support system with helping him to make his decision and said he hopes he can one day inspire someone the way they inspired him.
“Obviously, I wouldn’t be in the situation or the place I am right now without all those people that helped me get to where I am. And I want to do the same for others,” Richardson said.
