Rapper Cardi B has been having a monumental summer ever since the release of her latest single “WAP” (short for Wet-A** P***y) that features Megan Thee Stallion. The phenomenon that is WAP, which included a very racy visual to accompany the raunchy and fun tune, has been nothing short of an unmitigated success story. It’s lived at the top of the charts since its debut, only being relegated to the number-two spot recently by the recent release from K-pop sensations BTS, and shows no signs of slowing down.
The song, although receiving universal critical acclaim, has also seen its share of negative criticism, with most of it seeming to appear from conservatives. Various conservative politicians have thrown themselves in the ring with their opinions of the song and it’s parent artists to criticize its sexual nature. It is to be noted that the “Bodak Yellow” superstar has been extremely vocal in her stance in politics, continuously using her platform to encourage fans to vote, and has advocated for many a cause. In 2016, she unabashedly backed Senator Bernie Sanders in his Presidential campaign and encouraged voters against voting for Donald Trump. In the 2020 race, she once again aligned herself with Sanders in his run for the presidency.

In an interview with Vogue, she explains her reasons for being a longtime supporter of Sanders. “One thing that I like about Bernie, is that, you know, there’s proof that he’s been doing this for years,” she said. “That he been caring about people for years. That it’s inside of him, being a humanitarian.
When I see the candidates be like, oh well, some of his bills, they not perfect. If he’s such a perfect person, why is Vermont not perfect? People are not perfect, but he has the perfect intentions. He naturally cares about minorities. He actually cares about people getting Medicare because he knows they can’t afford it. I don’t feel like he’s just saying these things ’cause he want the vote.”

Right-wing commentator Candace Owens has made no apologies in her stance with Trump. A staunch supporter, Owens came forward recently with various criticisms directed towards the “Press” rapper, including comments on WAP.
She sat down with Ben Shapiro, who also had comments on the Cardi and Meg single saying “This is what feminism fought for,” in a video to his Twitter. She slammed the rapper for interviewing former Vice President Joe Biden for Elle Magazine last month, saying she couldn’t understand why Biden hadn’t chosen an “intellectual” Black person to sit with.

Cardi responded to the Owens interview, saying “Why wouldn’t Joe Biden sit down with me? I have millions of followers and I pay millions in taxes … I’m heard all around the world.” She continued addressing Owens saying, “The same way I get people to pop their [body] and have a good time and make them feel like [good]— I can also encourage millions of followers to go vote.”
Candace also took the time to address Cardi’s latest song WAP in an 8-min video uploaded to her Instagram and also continued to throw shots directed toward the rapper. This led to a series of responses from Cardi, currently under the weather, saying “Yes you are right I have the number 1 song & I have a huge platform and I can make millions go vote to get the MAN THAT USED YOU,” she says. “I don’t want to argue with you Candace I really don’t have the time. I honestly just feel sorry for you.”
Cardi also pointed out an unfortunate event that happened to her sister Hennesey, and her sister’s girlfriend over the weekend, saying they suffered from harassment from Trump supporters in the Hamptons. Directing the attention back towards Owens, she continued, “You want to call me a dumb b—h, you want to call me illiterate … girl, you’re getting pimped out by White men. “You have been this man’s cheerleader. You’re a beautiful Black woman, you talk great, amazing … and this man didn’t have the decency to let you talk at the Republican convention.”

Twitter users noted that Candace Owens seemingly has had a vendetta against the rapper, pointing out different instances where she coerces the rapper. Cardi concluded with her own video response, saying, “You wanted an answer, here you go … you have it. Now leave me alone, b–h. Now I’m going to go drink some chicken noodle soup.”
