R&B Singer LeToya Luckett Tearfully Reveals She Had to Sleep In Her Car After Being Removed From Destiny’s Child

Singer and actress LeToya Luckett got her start with the mega-successful girl group Destiny’s Child, but over the years she’s established a career of her own. With so much happening in the world, the “Torn” singer has been reminiscing and sharing stories with fans over Instagram, and her latest insider view into her own history has the Internet shocked.

After leaving Destiny’s Child due to their perceived lack of fair treatment from management at the time aka Beyonce’s father, Luckett and former member LaTavia received settlements after they filed a lawsuit against Mathew Knowles. After receiving their payouts, Luckett went on to a fairly successful solo career in the music industry.

After her first album went platinum, Luckett’s perceived star continued to rise. Her first single “Torn” went on to hit #2 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and her album debuted at #1. Luckett and Beyoncé Knowles are the only members of Destiny’s Child to have an album debut at number one on the Billboard 200 and achieve platinum status in the U.S.

While music is what got her into the entertainment industry, Luckett has managed to carve out a successful acting career for herself, as well. After appearing with Destiny’s Child on the TV show Smart Guy back in 1998, it seems as if the bug stayed with her. As of 2020, she’s amassed a considerable list of credits and just wrapped a role on the OWN Network show Greenleaf, which went off the air after a number of seasons.

Despite all of this, life hasn’t always been easy for the Houston native.

The unceremonious departure from Destiny’s Child took a toll on her — and her finances. Luckett’s not the only member of Destiny’s Child that has shared their former financial struggles, despite coming from such a prestigious, renowned group like DC3. Kelly Rowland also shared during the quarantine about her own financial issues that she experienced early on in her success.

Rowland shared with Pastor Erwin McManus recently in an interview about how she “almost lost everything” trying to keep up with the lavish lifestyle that everyone around her had.

“Even going through my own time where there was a lot of–no one will believe this and it’ll actually be the first time I talk about it–where I almost lost everything because I was so busy trying to keep up,” Kelly shared with the Pastor from her home. “Whether it was the look, whether it was the wardrobe, whether it was the car, whether it was the place, whether it was the–you know what I mean? All that silliness.”

“You were rich-broke,” Erwin added, which made Kelly laugh. “Rich broke!” she exclaimed. “Rich broke.” Kelly then recalled her best friend telling her that despite her money problems, she still needed to give to others.

While Letoya’s issues were slightly different, it still rings as alarming since the two of them both came from the same R&B group. While speaking and checking in with fans this weekend, LeToya shared some intimate details about her own finances that many found shocking.

“During my journey I was staying at people’s house, I never told these stories before … I slept in a car in LA while I was making my first album. Not a lot of nights, but you know what I’m saying? I was drinking a gallon of water and buying the microwavable oodles of noodles [starts to weep] … I can’t believe I’m crying,” Luckett said as she reflected back upon her journey.
