They just won’t let John Boyega live. A star who’s casting was deemed controversial by Star Wars aficionados – arguably the most rabid fandom in all of pop culture –Boyega shared some parting thoughts on his three-movie experience portraying a black Stormtrooper named Finn.
John has been very vocal amongst the global chorus for justice and equality as of late. John took to the streets with a megaphone during a London demonstration in June this year charging all within earshot, “Black lives have always mattered, we have always been important, we have always met suffering, we have always succeeded, regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting. I ain’t waiting”. Later and even more candidly, he stated, “Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but F— that.”
Star Wars fans have subjected him to various levels of harassment since the trailer premier of Star Wars Episode VII, The Force Awakens that revealed him as a Black Stormtrooper in 2015. Online trolls operating under the pseudo-anonymity of social media, object to his passionate support of racial justice. Mincing no words, John recently responded via Twitter, “Toxic Star Wars fans still find their way to my mentions. Lord. Must I be blunt? I don’t f–k with you no more.” He continued, “Lord waited so long to tell the toxic fans to fack off.”

Boyega wasn’t the only Star Wars actor receiving the wrath of the fans. Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rebel Pilot Rose Tico, in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker deleted her Instagram account under a volley of hateful attacks from fans.
Fans engaged with Boyega recently about a possible return to the franchise. One twitter user subtweeted him, “Force Finn in action with Green lightsaber dressed in black is all I want from the next SW film!” John swiftly dispelled the fan’s wishes responding, “lol no…thank you I’ve moved on.
Prior to the recent Star Wars trilogy, the London-born actor seized Hollywood’s attention as the teenage leading man of micro-budget Sci-Fi hit Attack the Block in 2011. He has received support of his outspokenness for equality from silver-screen heavyweights such as Get Out director Jordan Peele, director-actress Olivia Wilde, actor Mark Hamill, and Star Wars collaborator Director-Producer J.J. Abrams.
Charlie Booker, the creative force behind Netflix’s Black Mirror added, “I would crawl through a barrel of broken glass to have John Boyega even so much as *glance* at one of my scripts.”
