Tokyo Jetz Issues Teary-Eyed Apology For George Floyd Joke (Video)

After receiving backlash from her fans, rapper Tokyo Jetz has now issued an apology for making a joke about George Floyd’s death.

The Jacksonville, Florida, native got emotional as she addressed her fans in a teary-eyed apology that she uploaded to her Instagram page.

In the three-minute video, Tokyo explained multiple times that she was not making an excuse for her actions in her initial video. “What I did was wrong as hell,” Tokyo began her apology.

To catch you up to speed, earlier Monday, Tokyo Jetz was trending on social media after a video showing her speaking about George Floyd’s murder in a joking manner surfaced. In the video, she can be seen playing around with a friend, telling him, “I’ma George Floyd your muthaf***in a**.”

While some felt it was just a joke made in poor taste, others on social media called for her to be canceled for making light of the death of George Floyd, who was killed by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin after Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than seven minutes.

One social media user said, “I can’t believe Tokyo Jetz, a Black woman with a Black son, even fixed her mouth to say that foul sh*t.”

In her apology, Tokyo addressed the fact that she is the mother of a black boy while apologizing to George’s family and the protesters who have been demanding justice in his name.

“I don’t want nobody to ever think that I don’t understand that I’m black as f**k,” Tokyo Jetz said. “I’m nothing else. I could never be nothing else. I don’t want people to ever think that I don’t understand that my son is black as hell and that any given moment, it can be me that needs somebody to stand up for me. It could be him, it could be anybody around me.

She continued, “I made a bad decision. I made a joke out of a situation that’s serious as f**k. And I promise you anything that you could desire to say to me, I told myself 10 times worse.”
