We truly cannot keep up with all this Black Girl Magic!
Entertainment mogul Issa Rae is opening up a new coffee shop in her hometown of Inglewood, XO Necole reports.
The Find Your Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen is a collaboration between Rae and Inglewood entrepreneurs, Ajay Relan, and Yonnie Hagos. The coffee shop boasts as a “place for creators of all walks … driven by [their] mission to bring quality ingredients & good vibes to the communities [they] serve in an environment conducive to creativity, community & connection.”
The Insecure star took to Instagram to share her new venture. “I’ve always wanted a coffee shop in my neighborhood. Coffee shops facilitate productivity in so many ways, they facilitate collaboration. I personally have done all of my writing in coffee shops. So it always disappointed me that there weren’t any that were Black-owned, that were even people of color-owned in my neighborhood,” Rae says in the video.
Relan spoke about the importance of Rae’s partnership saying, “We could not have found a more authentic partner whose values and whose mission is aligned with ours. Being able to have created a space that compliments all of the efforts and all of the projects that she’s kind of developing outside of this, it just made a lot of sense.”
Find Your Hilltop’s mission is centered around what they call, ‘the Climb,’ “the goals each and every one of us create and the obstacles we must inevitably overcome to realize them.” They seek to help with this “climb” through their community driven approach, hiring local employees and paying above minimum wage, partnering with culture creators like Rae, and uniting people through dining, live performances, and coffee.
Rae spoke on why this was so important to her, saying she is immensely proud and felt like the partnership “was a dream come true.” “It’s so important to have these spaces where you feel safe, where you can be creative, and have a sense of comfort to know that it’s YOUR space,” she said.
In addition to her new coffee shop, the 34-year-old actress also just started her own record label, became the first female celebrity voice of Google Assistant, and ventured into the tech world with her investment in Streamlytics. None of us are doing enough!
We can figure out how to get more like Issa, while sipping on her coffee at either of the two Find Your Hilltop locations on 4427 W. Slauson Ave or 170 N. La Brea in Inglewood.
