While Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith may have joked about having a “bad marriage for life” years ago, it appears their dedication towards doing life well together hasn’t dissipated.

How do I know this? In addition to the fact that both parties in this marriage have aired out the good, bad, and ugly parts of their personal histories in their respective memoirs—Will and Worthy—in an upcoming interview with Drew Barrymore on her eponymous daytime talk show, the Girls Trip star revealed that despite their rocky road: she and hubby Will would never be parting ways.
“We’re staying together forever. I tried. We tried,” she said in a clip provided to Entertainment Weekly, likely referencing their surprising seven-year separation they endured that she previously revealed to CBS Mornings’ Nate Burleson earlier this month actually “worked” to help save their marriage.
“I would say that that separation did work,” she said as previously reported by The Root. “Because I really feel like for myself, I needed time for emotional maturity. First of all, I was in a deep healing process and I really needed to dissolve some false ideas of what marriage is. False ideas of what I thought Will needed to be for me, versus what I needed to learn to be for myself, in order to have a loving relationship. So I had to really do some deep healing.”
It seems like some of that healing is paying off seeing as how Jada and Will continue to show up for each other and their family. While their specific relationship dynamic isn’t one they recommend to anyone, it looks like its paying dividends for them and that’s all that should matter.
