Black Business Month is still going strong. And while we certainly spotlight all-things Black-owned year-round, August is a month when we simply bring even more visibility to the thousands of men and women who have turned their passions into profits. From launching food brands that are now being sold in Target to creating hair and beauty brands designed especially for our textures and melanin.

This week, EBONY wants to show love to some of the Black-owned beauty brands we’re loving right now. We wish we could list every single brand out there, but just know we see you, we support you, and we admire the hard work you’ve put into running your Black business—because we know it’s not easy.

If you’re looking for a few new options this month, check out these five brands for Black Business Month.

Oui The People

What initially started as a razor made for women, instead of men, has now blossomed into a brand that’s continuing that spirit of rebellion. Oui The People prides itself on creating products that nourish you and your body, instead of making you feel less-than with marketing terms like ageless and flawless.

Black Girl Sunscreen

If you haven’t caught wind of this brand yet, you’ve likely been under a rock. Black Girl Sunscreen has become a bestseller from Black and Brown skin tones over the last few years, in large part to the fact that it doesn’t leave a white cast on our face. The brand has expanded to also offer a kid’s line, as well as an SPF-based lip gloss.

MelanBrand Skin

Created by 12-year-old Bron Echols, this new skincare brand was launched from the pre-teen’s need to use products that were safe for his skin, as he moved into puberty. His mother gifted him $1,200 towards starting up his business, and explained the importance of leaving a legacy behind for him, along with generational wealth. And well, the rest is history.

Briogeo Hair

Briogeo Hair is guaranteed to make wash day your favorite day for all types and textures of hair. The brand uses clean products and a recycling guide to ensure its structure is safe for customers and the environment. Some of their most popular products include a Rosehip + Algae Deep Conditioning Mask and a Caffeine + Biotin Peptide and Density Serum.

HannaHanna Beauty

HannaHanna Beauty’s aim is easy, “to create results-driven products for body and face, with ethically sourced ingredients, starting with shea butter sourced directly from producers in Tamale, Ghana.” It is one of the hottest brands out right now, often selling out thanks to social media influencers raving about the products on their channels.

Products featured on EBONY are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. However, when you buy something through our retail links, EBONY may earn an affiliate commission.
