Adding to her growing list of accolades this year, Hip-hop legend Missy Elliott will be honored at the National Museum of African American Music’s Celebration of Legends, reports Billboard. Platinum singer/songwriter Mya who performed on the 2021 remake of “Lady Marmalade”, and trailblazing music executive Sylvia Rhone are expected to be in attendance to pay tribute to Elliot.

Throughout her remarkable career as a rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer, Missy Elliott and her long-time production partner Timbaland have amassed four Grammy Awards and sold 40 million records worldwide, making her the best-selling female rapper of all time. Her top forty hits include “Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)”, “Sock It To Me,” “Hot Boyz,” “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It” “Lose Control,” and many more.

Earlier this month, Elliott made history as the first female Hip Hop artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also became the first female hip-hop artist/songwriter to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.

Opening its doors in 2021, the National Museum of African American Music was designed “to celebrate and preserve African Americans’ influence on music and provide Nashville-area residents and visitors alike with diverse cultural offerings.”

The Celebration of Legends ceremony will take place at the museum in Nashville on June 2.
