Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry graduated from Davidson College Wednesday in a one-man ceremony and was also inducted into the college’s hall of fame.

The reigning Finals MVP was the sole graduate during a ceremony at Davidson in front of a packed auditorium.

“This is an absolutely amazing day and an amazing moment for myself and my family,” Curry said. “The best decision I ever made was to come to Davidson College and pursue an education, join an amazing community and, most importantly, play for an amazing man who has built this program in Coach [Bob] McKillop.”

Curry completed the requirements to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology back in May, but since he was busy winning his fourth NBA Finals Championship he was not able to attend the graduation ceremony.

Curry Has Jersey Retired, Inducted Into Hall of Fame

Also during the graduation ceremony, Curry had his #30 jersey retired and was inducted into Davidson College’s Hall of Fame. Curry became the first Davidson athlete in any sport to have his jersey number retired. The school has a rule that athletes must have a degree for a jersey to be retired.

“I get kind of awkward at times when I walk into this gym and see this many people showing up just for me and the celebration of what, you know, the graduation and the Hall of Fame induction and seeing my jersey in the rafters,” Curry said.

“But every single person that I got to play with, that coached me, helped me when I was hurt and injured and tried to find ways to get back on the court. All the faculty and staff that supported me through my three years here. I really feel like this is why this matters so much.”

The NBA’s all-time 3-point leader is also Davidson’s all-time leader in points, 3-pointers, free throws, field goals, and steals.
