Craig Robinson show cancelled after gun fired inside Charlotte club

Actor and comedian Craig Robinson was scheduled to take the stage at Charlotte’s Comedy Zone Saturday night when a man with a gun fired a shot in the theater.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department stated there were no injuries in the shooting. Officers said 36-year-old Omar McCombs went inside The Comedy Zone on North Carolina Music Factory Boulevard just after 9 p.m., brandishing the gun and threatening bodily harm while inside.

According to Charlotte’s WCNC, Police said McCombs fired inside, and the club was quickly evacuated, he was soon thereafter placed in custody. CMPD claims McCombs is a convicted felon and was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm.

Craig Robinson said he was safe in the club’s green room at the time of the shooting. The comedian took to Instagram to describe the scene.

“I’m performing at The Comedy Zone in Charlotte, North Carolina. There was an active shooter in the comedy club,” he said.

The Comedy Zone announced that Robinson’s Sunday show would be canceled. Anyone who purchased tickets for the event will be refunded, according to the venue.

According to AP News, Robinson said that he and others at the club were taken to a nearby concert where the pop group Big Time Rush were performing.

“I was in the green room and they were like ‘Everybody get out,’” he said. “It was wild. It was a moment for sure.”

Charges listed for McCombs include assault by pointing a gun, discharging a firearm in the city, communicating threats and possession of a firearm by a felon.

In a Sunday Instagram post, Robinson thanked the club’s security and staff for quickly getting everyone to safety as well as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police for their “swift action” in arresting the alleged shooter.

“Hopefully he gets the help he needs,” Robinson wrote. “Thanks be to God no one was hurt.”
