Born Bashar Barakah Jackson, the rapper, was one of the newer acts in Hip-Hop to have the eyes and ears of many. However, both the then 20-year-old’s life and career were cut short on February 19th, 2020.
The “What You Know Bout Love” rapper was laid to rest in a mausoleum at the Green-Wood Cemetery in his hometown of Brooklyn. However, over the weekend, his crypt was damaged. According to TMZ, Pop Smoke’s headstone was smashed and the grave was potentially removed.
“An incident of vandalism took place on our grounds early Saturday. We immediately notified the authorities and are in touch with the family,” a spokesperson for the cemetery told The Post. “Given the ongoing investigation, we cannot comment further at this time.”
Pop Smoke’s mother, Audrey Jackson, and family members returned to the site to clean up after the incident. Jackson took to Instagram to show their progress, as well as honor her son.
“We cleaned up,” Jackson captioned the post. “We sat and talked to each other and to him.” However, in another post, she sent a message to culprits. “Whoever you are, you have my attention. The NYPD has given no further updates as the investigation remains ongoing.
