Santia Deck made history in 2020 becoming the first woman athlete to sign a multi-million dollar deal to play football, has now announced that Tronus, her footwear startup, has started a historic partnership with Foot Locker, Inc.’s subsidiary Eastbay Black Business reported.
“I just think about all the young people, especially girls and people of color, who will see this as proof that impossible dreams can come true,” CEO Santia Deck said.
Tronus is the first sneaker brand owned by a professional female athlete. Santia, who was at one point an Olympic hopeful, learned to channel her disappointment into other ventures. Then in 2020, when Santia was awarded a multi-million-dollar deal to play the sport she loved with the newly formed WFLA.
Santia made history and a new lane for herself all at once, and unfortunately the pandemic began. Instead of tabling her passion and drive, she once again made a major pivot after learning that the pandemic would delay the WFLA’s first season. Then Deck and her mother, Cynthia Cureton-Robles, launched Tronus during the pandemic. The demand for the first shoes they offered for pre-order crashed the company website in the first 24 hours.
“I may not get any medals, but I get to show everyone that their dreams can bring home the gold,” Deck said.
Tronus shoes will officially be available online at Eastbay.com on Sept. 15th, 2021.
