The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is officially set to return next April after being rescheduled numerous times due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Goldenvoice, the promoter for the two-weekend festival, announced the new dates on Tuesday (June 1). “Our desert homecoming is officially set for April 2022: weekend one will take place on April 15-17, 2022 and weekend two on April 22-24, 2022,” the announcement read. Advance ticket sales will begin this Friday (June 4) at 10 a.m. PT. “More time to plan and more time to pay for your passes over time with our flexible payment plan options. Information about flexible payment plans and more at coachella.com,” the announcement continued.
This marks the fourth time that Coachella has been rescheduled due to COVID-19. It was first rescheduled from April 2020 to October 2020, and then from April 2021 to October 2021, however, October dates were never officially confirmed by festival promoters.
In January, Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the public health officer for Riverside County, announced the festival’s cancellation on Twitter. “Due to the pandemic, Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser today (Jan. 29) signed a public health order canceling Coachella Valley Music and Arts, Stagecoach Country Music festivals planned for April 2021,” he tweeted. “We look forward to when the events may return.”
Health officials previously feared that having the festival would have caused a “resurgence of COVID-19” in the area and across the country.
Coachella 2020 was originally slated to feature headlining performances by Travis Scott, Rage Against The Machine and Frank Ocean. Other performers who were scheduled to take the stage were Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Lil Nas X, Daniel Caesar, Run The Jewels, Ari Lennox, DaBaby, Summer Walker and more.
Headliners and performers for the 2021 festival have not yet been announced.
