2 people killed, over 20 wounded at Florida rap show

Shots were fired Sunday (May 30) morning at a rap concert in Northwest Miami-Dade, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The publication reports up to 25 people were wounded and two people have died.

The shooting took place shortly after midnight at El Mula Banquet Hall on the 7600 block of Northwest 186th Street in Hialeah, Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez said at a news briefing.

“We believe this is a targeted act of gun violence,” Ramirez said. “This is a despicable act of gun violence, a cowardly act.”

The assailants pulled up to the venue in a white Nissan Pathfinder. Three unidentified people got out of the SUV with assault rifles and handguns and began shooting “indiscriminately” into the crowd of partygoers, the police director confirmed.

Event flyers posted on Instagram show El Mula was hosting a Memorial Day Weekend album release party on Saturday night, featuring live performances by ABMG Spitta and other local rappers.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Detective Angel Rodriguez said, “Every weekend it is the same thing. This is targeted, this is definitely not random.”

This incident is the second major shooting in the Miami area during Memorial Day weekend. On Friday (May 28), one person was killed and six others were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the Wynwood district of Miami.

“It is very difficult to stop a small amount of individuals who want to go out there and commit murder, and it takes all of us to stop this,” Ramirez told The Times. “We really have to put the work in this summer to keep our children and community safe.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took to Twitter to share his sentiments regarding the matter. “We mourn the loss of the two victims and are praying for the recovery of the more than 20 people injured at El Mula Banquet Hall near Hialeah. We are working with local authorities to bring justice to the perpetrators. Justice needs to be swift & severe!” DeSantis tweeted. The investigation is ongoing. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to search for information about the suspects.
