Video captures cops choking and beating Black man: ‘He can’t breathe’

A video shows a police officer chocking a Black man in California. The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s reportedly launched a use of force investigation. According to The Valley Post, officials of the sheriff’s office acknowledge the investigation in a statement sent to the news outlet. According to The Valley Post:

The incident occurred on March 30, at about 6:20 p.m. on the 17700 block of Danielson Street near Jakes Way in Canyon Country, said SCV Sheriff’s Station officials in a statement. As deputies neared the location, they encountered a man walking with a package. The man told deputies the package did not belong to him, according to investigators. It was later determined, the man was wanted in connection with a robbery of a U.S. Postal carrier approximately one hour earlier, in which a handgun was simulated, according to station officials. The postal carrier positively identified the suspect, according to investigators.

“Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station is aware of a video circulating on social media,” the statement said. “A use of force investigation is currently ongoing.”

The video shows an encounter with deputies beating and choking a man in Canyon Country. The man is seemed to be bloody from the incident. “Tell him to stop, tell him to stop, I need him to stop. He can’t breathe,” a woman can be heard saying in the video.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials later says that the man was sought in connection to the robbery of a U.S. Postal employee. The suspect was said to have used a simulated handgun during the robbery.
